Shipping together is a collaborative approach that allows people to pool their shipments, thereby saving money on shipping costs.

There are several common scenarios where people may want to ship something together with others:
  1. Online group purchases, wholesale, or bulk orders:
When individuals collectively group buys products from the same seller or online platform, they may choose to combine their orders and have them shipped together to save on shipping costs.
  2. Group vacations or collaborative projects:
When a group of people plans a vacation or project together, they may choose to ship belongings and/or supplies to and/or from the vacation or project destination.
  3. Moving or relocation:
When multiple individuals or families are relocating to the same destination, they may opt to share shipping containers or moving trucks to transport their belongings together
  4. Export and/or import: When businesses or individuals engage exporting or importing (similar or same) goods, they may choose to consolidate their shipments.

Here are some things to consider:
  1. Providers:

  2. Packaging:
Proper packaging is essential when shipping products to ensure that they arrive at their destination in good condition. This is particularly important when dealing with fragile or perishable items.

  3. Limit:
Sometimes there is a limit to the dimension and weight shipped, meaning that sometimes it is cheaper to ship items together up to a certain weight or dimension, but after a certain point, it becomes more cost-effective to ship them separately.

Tips for creating Shipping Together:

  1. Trigger
If there is no limit to the dimension and weight shipped, meaning it is always cheaper to ship items together, the appropriate trigger to use is the Cost Trigger.
If there is a limit to the dimension and weight shipped, meaning that sometimes it is cheaper to ship items together up to a certain weight or dimension, but after a certain point, it becomes more cost-effective to ship them separately, the appropriate trigger to use is the Segment Trigger.

  2. Item
An organizer can create a list of options with weight and dimension limits, along with the associated costs. For example:

    • Small: The shipped item shall not exceed 10" x 10" x 10" or 2 lb.
    • Medium: The shipped item shall not exceed 12" x 12" x 12" cm or 3 lb.

For the Cost Trigger, set the limit to 0, as there is no item limit.

As the Segment Trigger, the item point can be based on either the weight or dimension limit. The sum of item points represents the cost threshold where shipping costs increase, and it is referred to as the Unit Size in the application.
For instance, if the cost threshold is 10 lb, it is more cost-effective to ship 12 lb in two separate shipments of 6 lb each rather than in a single shipment. In this example, the Unit Size is 10 point (10 lb), and the item points are 2 and 3 points respectively.
To accommodate slight deviations from the cost threshold, a tolerance is specified. The tolerance represents the maximum allowable unused weight. For example, if the tolerance is 1 lb, it means that a shipment between 9 lb and 10 lb is acceptable. The tolerance helps account for situations where the total weight of the items may not precisely match the cost threshold.
